Amylou Jennings En Plein Air Artist

Trained under the mentorship of Natalia Avdeeva ROI
Amy Jennings began her artistic training under the personal mentorship of Natalia Avdeeva ROI. Over the course of two years, through a rigorous programme of one-to-one instruction, she produced more than 300 paintings — the result of consistent outdoor and studio study, compositional training, and deep immersion in traditional oil techniques.
Natalia’s structured and highly individualised teaching goes far beyond technical refinement. Her method cultivates clarity of vision, painterly confidence, and a profound sensitivity to form and light. Under her guidance, Amy developed a distinctive visual voice — one that is immediate, resonant, and assured.
This dedication has already led to public recognition: two of Amy’s paintings were selected for the Chelsea Art Society’s 2024 Summer Exhibition, and over 100 works will be presented in her debut solo exhibition this summer in Central London.
What began as a mentorship programme has now evolved into a practice. For Amy, this was more than learning to paint — it was the disciplined awakening of an artist’s life.

The plein air mindset
In the early 2000s Amylou moved to Breckenridge, Colorado in the US and then to Alpe d’Huez in France with her husband. Working remotely gave her the opportunity to spend more time in nature. Snowboarding, which she did most days during the winter, is still a great passion and a big driver to her creative thinking. It led her to other extreme sports, including skateboarding (even building a halfpipe in the back garden) and paragliding.
Painting is no different.

Amylou revisits locations at different times to see how they change. She might take a photo for structural reference - but the rest of her work is a composition of her impression of a scene.

Amylou paints in all weathers, embracing the unpredictability of landscapes and en plein air work.

She applies her knowledge of motion, perspective, and altitude from years of extreme sports to create bold, dynamic compositions.
All of Amylou’s experiences to date inform and shape how she approaches her painting. Problem solving is at the heart of programming, and for Amylou Jennings it’s the same with art. Get the composition wrong before you start, and your painting will fail. With Natalia’s support and teaching, Amylou continues to push boundaries, experiment with new techniques, and refine her artistic voice. Each of her paintings offer a glimpse into a world most people never pause long enough to notice.
Exceptional landscape oil painter, free spirit, and adventurer
Amylou, like her paintings, can’t be defined by one word alone. Much of Amylou’s work is done in the open air, but she also creates works in her studio from her studies in the field. A quietly spoken person who some might describe as shy, Amylou has found connection through painting. It has allowed her to connect with everyone from famous celebrities to road sweepers. Whether they feature in her paintings, bring her hot drinks when it’s cold, or stop in fascination to ask questions, Amylou always has time to share with passersby.
The greatest thrill of all is the people I meet while painting, as they experience your art alongside you. This interaction creates a real story to what I paint.’ Art has no boundaries.
What will the future bring?
Amylou Jennings’ extreme landscape oil-painting adventure has only just begun. In little more than two years, and with Natalia Avdeeva’s expert guidance, Amylou has achieved more than most painters could hope for. If you’re in London, Venice, Glasgow, on a hillside – or anywhere else with an interesting view – look out for Amylou. She’s only just got started.
